DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:
The role of the student is very much the same as a full time employee in as much as they will be assigned to a project group within one of the departments and trained in most of the widely used techniques.
As the student will play an active role within a project team, the ability to communicate and work well in group environments is highly desirable.
The main responsibilities expected of each student will include
· To perform their work in accordance with P&G processes and procedures, including health & safety
· Be responsible for performing defined experimental programmes with appropriate supervision and guidance.
· Be responsible for accurately recording the work carried out and ensure full documentation, which is compliant with our quality procedures.
· To actively participate in non-project related departmental activities such as regular meetings

KEY COMPETENCIES:
· A basic knowledge of science, especially chemistry or natural sciences or maybe an interest in chemical engineering.
· The ability to perform chemical calculations (e.g. molarity, use of formula weights and simple statistics).

The Process Science department consists of fermentation, analytical development, mammalian cell culture and process development departments, any one of which the successful candidates may be offered a position in.
The role of the student within the organisation is very much the same as a full time employee in as much as they will be assigned to a project group within one of the above departments and trained in most of the widely used techniques including chromatography, HPLC, SDS PAGE analysis, separation techniques including centrifugation and homogenisation as well as techniques specific to each department.

This placement involves support to the nuclear decommissioning industry and environmental clean up.
Students are involved in the implementation side, with the production of plant modification proposals, risk assessments and operator instructions.
There are also opportunities to get involved with more analytical work, with waste calculations and characterisation or decommissioning projects, in addition to a host of other products offered to our customers, depending on student capability and program.
