DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

The role of the student  is very much the same as a full time employee in as much as they will be assigned to a project group within one of the departments and trained in most of the widely used techniques.

As the student will play an active role within a project team, the ability to communicate and work well in group environments is highly desirable. 

 The main responsibilities expected of each student will include

·        To perform their work in accordance with P&G processes and procedures, including health & safety

·        Be responsible for performing defined experimental programmes with appropriate supervision and guidance.

·        Be responsible for accurately recording the work carried out and ensure full documentation, which is compliant with our quality procedures.

·        To actively participate in non-project related departmental activities such as regular meetings

As students develop during their year, we will seek to make sure they are provided with challenges and

KEY COMPETENCIES:

·        A basic knowledge of science, especially chemistry or natural sciences or maybe an interest in chemical engineering.

·        The ability to perform chemical calculations (e.g. molarity, use of formula weights and simple statistics).

·        A good level of competency using computer packages such as word, excel, outlook and PowerPoint. 

·        Good time management.

·        Good communication skills.

·        Ability to work within team environments.

Role would suit someone about to study Engineering ideally with an interest in either mechanical, electrical or instrumentation.

The role may involve working within the engineering team but may require linking into the safety, health and environmental team.

The role will involve carrying out tasks related to plant management and control to help solve plant issues and develop opportunities for improvement, for example new technologies and systems.

The Workington Mill employs 500 people and operates 24 hours a day to produce over 250,000 tonnes of folding box board each year.  One of West Cumbrias leading employers we are looking for someone to join our finance team for a year long placement.

Working as a Business and Finance Assistant the successful applicant should be studying for a degree in Mathematics, Business or Finance related subject, have good literacy and numeracy skills knowledge of Microsoft packages particularly Excel.  

Experience of creating and maintaining web pages would be an advantage as the jobholder will be heavily involved in the maintenance and development of the UK’s intranet site.

This placement involves support to the nuclear decommissioning industry and environmental clean up.

Students are involved in the implementation side, with the production of plant modification proposals, risk assessments and operator instructions.

There are also opportunities to get involved with more analytical work, with waste calculations and characterisation or decommissioning projects, in addition to a host of other products offered to our customers, depending on student capability and program.

Examples of Year in Industry projects include a practical project involving stress analysis to link theoretical calculations with a 3D model built by the student. Other projects are computer based involving the development of a company intranet system.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

The role involves working within two teams, one containing SHE professionals and the other Engineers. The role will involve carrying out tasks related to SHE legislation requirements and helping to solve plant issues and develop opportunities for improvement e.g. energy efficiency improvements.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

Mainly involved with the Specialist Support team, assisting on current small and large projects.  Main support area will be in the geotechnics team, helping with any analysis associated with external loading.

Ideal candidate will be able to work to agreed time scales and able to prioritise work to suit these time scales.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

Ideally we would like a software engineer over the next year for a fairly major project we're working on to do with our sonar product. This would involve developing a data viewer application, eventually culminating in 3D visualisation of the sonar pictures.

Its all quite complex stuff, and we'd need somebody who we know could cope with the workload and the complexity of it (i.e. being able to think round the problem).
